August 15th--National Relaxation Day...How Do You Relax?

Press Sample
My day usually starts at 5:00 AM and normally doesn't shut down until 11:00 PM. Its no wonder, that when my head hits the pillow, its only a matter a minutes before I'm fast asleep. A certain amount of stress is normal, too much stress can be harmful to both your physical and mental health. Thanks to our British mates, we have National Slacker Day, which those of us in the USA changed to the politically correct National Relaxation Day-August 15th. Yes, today, Friday, August 15th is National Relaxation Day. Probably wish you had taken today off from work, right? Oh well put it in your calendar for next year.

So this brings to question, what are some of your fast and easy ways to relax? What are some of your favorite products used to relax?  I have posted in the past about my DIY Spa Nights. When I want to relax, I pamper myself, I find it very relaxing to just spend time taking care of my hair, my nails, my body, my face, and my feet...

I was recently sent some products from Neutrogena to help with my relaxation process. A couple of these products I am familiar with and already know that I love them.  The other two are new to me, so I can't wait to give them a try.

The first is a long time favorite, the Neutrogena Body Oil with the light sesame formula-Fragrance Free.  While some add this oil directly to their bath water, my preference is to apply it to damp skin and pat dry.  It leave my skin feeling soft, moisturized buy not greasy.

The next product received, is one I already keep in my handbag, Neutrogena Norwegian Hand Creme.  I participated in the Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream 7-Day Challenge late last year and prior to that, this had been a tried and true hand cream.

The other two products are the Neutrogena Rainbath Renewing Shower and Bath Gel. The scent is Pear & Green Tea. I would describe the scent as a crisp lemon-lime, but not overpowering.  In addition to using as a shower or bath gel, it can also be used as a shave gel.

The last product is the Neutrogena Triple Repair Fortifying Leave-In Treatment. It claims to mend split ends, strengthen dry, brittle hair and protect fro breakage.  Its also safe for color-treated hair and also acts as a heat protectant up to 400 degrees.  I'll certainly be trying this on my next wash day.

Each of these products can be easily found at your local Walmart, Walgreen, CVS, Ulta, along with many other local store or online at Drugstrore.com.

So with these products, my body, hair, and hands are taken care of.  Add to this my favorite facial scrub and mask along with a manicure, my DIY at-home Day of Relaxation will be complete.  Add to this a nap, and I am relaxed!

So when you want to really just slow down, and relax what do you do?

 Grace, Peace, Joy & Blessings.

PRESS RELEASE: FingerPaints Film Noir, 2014 Wheel Swatches & Comparison

Press Sample

I wasn't overly impressed with the Enchanted Mermaids collection, but this Limited Edition FingerPaints Film Noir Collection is more to my liking. I wasn't sure what was meant by the "porcelain finish" descriptive. So I was excited to receive these for review. Now I can see it as an unfinished porcelain, almost chalkboard-like, matte finish. These shades are reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour. L to R: Hollywood Decadence, Beautiful Mystery, Film Noir, & Petal Obsession.

Here are some bottle shots of the Limited Edition FingerPaints Film Noir Collection; along with a close up of Hollywood Decadence

FingerPaints Hollywood Decadence sort of reminds me of a muted China Glaze Its A-Trap-Eze.

While we just finished celebrating Independence Day, I'm excited to see the Fall nail polish collections. What is your favorite season for nail polish collections?

Grace, Peace, Joy & Blessings.

FingerPaints-Enchanted Mermaid, July, 2014 Swatches

Press Sample

Ever since their brand revamp, FingerPaints has really been releasing some gorgeous polishes. So of course when I received the offer to review their latest Enchanted Mermaid collection, I was excited to give it a try. The press release described it as below:

"FingerPaints Enchanted Mermaid Collection is a LIMITED EDITION underworld inspired textured nail collection with 4 sailor-seducing shades. You will fall victim to the temptress effect of this innovative nail collection! The alluring fish scale texture is available in multi-tone shades that shimmer and shift like the friendly underwater creatures. After 2-3 coats you will see the full effect morph! This collection is so unique and eye-catching you are sure to be enchanted!"

I also really like textured nail polishes so again, I was anxious to give this collection a try. I will admit that I wasn't expecting this type of texture. There is another national brand that had a recent collection called Crinkled Chrome and from the swatches I saw, I had no desire to purchase any of them even when I found them on clearance.  When I received this FingerPaints Enchanted Mermaid collection, I was loving the shades in the bottle...they are gorgeous, in...the...bottle.
Of course, the first shade I wanted to try was the blue, Sailor's Lure, a blue-purple duo chrome. While the color is so pretty, first impressions, I not feeling the finish.  This is two coats.

Next is a golden-sage, Underwater Enchantress.  Again, this is a pretty shade but the finish is not one I would wear. This is also 2 coats.

I've really been enjoying white manicures lately. This opalescent white is Sea Temptress. While this is 2 coats, to get full opacity, at least 3 coats would be needed.

Last, in this collection of four and probably my favorite is Tails of Love: a teal with a slight purple undertone. This is also 2 coats.

In summary, again, the shades are really pretty and I can only hope that FingerPaints will release them again but in a different finish.  I'm not feeling this textured finish.  If you are interested, this Enchanted Mermaid collection has already been spotted in several Sally Beauty Supply stores.  FingerPaints sell for $5.29 or $4.49 with a Beauty Club Card. Have you given this or China Glaze Crinkled Chrome collection a try with any success, and if so what application method did you use?

Grace, Peace, Joy & Blessings.

Rest In Peace-Original Sally Hansen Pacific Blue

I've made it no secret that I love Blue nail polish. So it was a few weeks ago that I was in Walmart strolling down the nail polish aisle and I spotted a beautiful cobalt blue nail polish.  While I have more than I will ever use, I had to at least take a closer look. What to my shock, the Sally Hansen bottle was labeled "Pacific Blue". Being the Blue nail polish connoisseur that I am, I said that had to be a "mis-label", but then I saw more than one bottle.  I put it back and resolved to load a picture to my phone so that the next time, there would be no doubt. Although I already knew the answer.  Anyway, today I found myself in Walmart again, this time armed with a picture of the much love, cult classic Sally Hansen Pacific Blue; and as I knew, there was a definite change in the polish.  Not to take anything away from this impostor, it is a beautiful blue, so I had no problem purchasing it to do a comparison.

When I first saw the new version of Pacific Blue, the first thing I thought was this looks like China Glaze Frostbite, another favorite but not Pacific Blue.  So once I got home I quickly went through my stash and found several similar to the new version, two Sally Hansen already had in their inventory, so why "fix" what "ain't" broke?!
Left to Right: China Glaze Frostbite, Sally Hansen Pacific Blue (Original), Sally Hansen Pacific Blue (New), Sally Hanse Blueberry Blast, Sally Hansen CSM Blue My Mind

Seen here are some wheel swatches to compare, not that we needed it. It is more than obvious from the bottle that they are different.  The formulation is also no comparison. The original Pacific Blue is almost a one-coater, whereas the new version as well as Blueberry Blast is very sheer; pictured here for the new Pacific Blue and Blueberry Blast is 3 coats. And of course, the original is a cream whereas the new is a shimmer. So again, while the new is pretty, I see no reason to remove the original Pacific Blue when Blueberry Blast and Blue My Mind already existed.

So here's to our old friend, Sally Hansen Pacific Blue, the original. You will always hold a special place in the hearts of nail polish enthusiasts. I see from my Instagram post and the others that have reposted and commented, like my follow enabler, Gianna at Nouveaucheap, the original Sally Hansen Pacific Blue is a much loved nail polish.
Side Note: like I did with the Orly issue, I will be emailing my Sally Hansen contacts to express our dissatisfaction.  I would ask that those that blog and also have contacts, please respectfully communicate our displeasure.  And for those that do not have a contact, I would suggest you visit the Sally Hansen website Contact Us page...again, I implore you to remain professional and respectful. I'm sure we will get further than if we were to go off half-cocked.

Grace, Peace, Joy & Blessings.

FingerPaints Poolside Paradise Collection

Press Sample

June is the month of nail polish deals at Sally Beauty Supply so I wanted to share with you swatches of the latest FingerPaints collection. As you are aware, FingerPaints is exclusive to Sally Beauty.  FingerPaints are regular $5.29 but Sally Beauty Supply has them on sale this month for 2 for $8.00.

"FingerPaints Poolside Paradise Collection is a LIMITED EDITION neon bright, high impact micro-metallic polish with supreme sparkle and shine! Have fun in the sun with this captivating nail color range in sun striking summer shades! Electric neon-like hues decorated with vivid glass pearl radiates in light for an eye catching effect and maximum shine. Nails so impactful, you’re sure to make a splash!"

Aloha Lei is a bright micro flakie orange with golden shimmer. This is 2 coats but for no visible nail, I would definitely go with at least 3 coats. An easy application.

Be My Baby is a raspberry pink duochrome metallic. This is 2 coats.

Hula Arubal is a bright yellow micro flakie this is 2 coats. To get a fully opaque manicure, I would suggest 3-4 coats.

This blue-purple duochrome metallic is Surf's Up. Of course, its my favorite of the collection. No surprise there.

This purple-blue duochrome metallic is 2 coats of Wild Bikini.

Margarita Mambo is a bright golden green flakie. This is 3 coats but I would go for additional coats if you don't want any visible nail line.

This entire collection applied smoothly with no issues. The formulation wasn't too thick or runny.   Also, I experienced no staining.  There are three flakies and three metallics. Have fun! And don't miss out on the sale at Sally Beauty Supply. I have love the FingerPaints line of nail polishes for years, even before I started buying higher priced nail polishes.

Grace, Peace, Joy & Blessings.

PRESS RELEASE: Introducing ORLY® Color Blast® and Color Care®

Brush on something new with 72 dazzling shades and 12 treatments that deliver salon results

If you've followed my blog for a while or more recently my Instagram feed you're aware of my love for the Orly Nail Polish brand. However, recently I came across the newly released Orly Color Blast line.  And the bottle size change had me puzzled and a little disappointed so I decided to contact my PR contact at Orly. Below is the response of the Director of Communication, John Galea along with the official Press Release.

" I’m thrilled to hear that you’ve been a fan of ORLY for many years.  Additionally, I’m very glad that you’ve discovered our new retail line, ORLY Color Blast.  ORLY Color Blast is a collection of vibrant colors and textures specifically designed for the retail environment. ORLY Color Care is a portfolio of 12 highly effective treatments to help maintain healthy, beautiful nails.  Color Blast and Color Care are available in .37 oz bottles, perfect for consumers with a MSRP of $6.99 for polish and $7.99 for Color Care.  Of course, prices may vary according to retailer.

The brand that you’ve loved for years, ORLY has not changed and is available in our .6 oz bottle with the patented Gripper Cap™.  ORLY has been the choice of professionals since the company’s inception, and will continue to be an innovator in the professional nail care industry.

Please note that you were misinformed buy the sales associate at Bed, Bath & Beyond.  ORLY has not pulled its signature professional product from the market. ORLY professional will continue to be offered via our traditional channels, while Color Blast will be available at selected retailers.  I hope this clarifies any questions you many have, but please feel free to let me know if there is anything else. I’ve also attached a press release for Color Blast and Color Care."

In addition, I asked about the formulation of the new Orly Color Blast line as compared to the Original professional line.  Here is Mr. Galea's response to that question:

"No there’s no difference in formulation, but our goal was to simplify for the consumer.  Bring the best of professional to the retail environment. It’s about color, texture and a self-service shopping experience."

ORLY, one of the leading color houses in salon nail care, introduces ORLY Color Blast and Color Care!  Think big, think bold, think bright with 9 categories of unique textures and finishes, ORLY Color Blast delivers 72 dazzling shades designed to get you noticed.

While keeping up with color trends is half the fun of a manicure, healthy nails are always in style. ORLY Color Blast is complemented by ORLY Color Care, a line of 12 highly effective treatments for every nail type, proven to deliver salon results. Each Color Care formula provides targeted support for long-lasting manicures offering everything you’ll need for healthy nails including, basecoats, topcoats, specialty and cuticle care.

Featuring ORLY’s patented Gripper Cap for easy opening and application, ORLY Color Blast and Color Care combines salon results with color and texture for the perfect at home manicure.

All ORLY products including ORLY Color Blast and Color Care are formulated without DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde.  ORLY Color Blast and Color Care will be available starting February 2014 for $6.99 each at several retailers, including select Bed Bath & Beyond, Kmart, & Meijer and in several countries worldwide.
So my overall opinion of the brand extension? I guess it's good for those who can't easily get to Orly. And looking at the shades included in the Color Blast collection, they've included some of the brand's favorites.
It all started with Pink. For more than 39 years, Jeff Pink and ORLY have pioneered the nail care industry. By creating innovative tools and superior nail products ORLY provides the medium to produce quality manicures, allowing consumers and salon professionals to express their most colorful desires.
