Random Blues Swatches...

I've made it no secret that I LOVE BLUE NAIL POLISHES!!!  So today, I went through my stash and pulled out a few of my untrieds to share with you.  None of these are new and I sure you've at least heard of them. So let's get started.  First is OPI Russian Navy (Russian Collection, 2007)...Simply, it's a gorgeous deep navy blue with faint purple shimmer. In the bottle there appears to be a duochrome. However, on then nail, not so much...nonetheless, if you love blue polishes, you need OPI Russian Navy.

Next is OPI Glacier Bay Blues from the 2004 Canadian Collection. I lucked up and was able to find this on one of the online retailers I use. This is a peacock blue/purple/green duochrome. This is the old pre-3Free formula. I don't know if this is the reason, but the application is superb. The duochrome, while not as each to photograph, is very visible on the nail.

Here is OPI Swimsuit...Nailed it! from the 2011 Miss Universe Collection. Of this collection, Swimsuit...Nailed It is my favorite. This is a beautiful electric blue foil. Just be sure to wear a really good basecoat, at least 2 coats. This polish really stains.

Lastly is OPI Swimsuit Nailed It layered under Orly Spazmatic.  I love mono-chromatics colors when applying glitters and these two are a perfect match. This is a gorgeous combination.  Spazmatic is from the Orly Flash Glam FX collection. While I haven't seen it in stores lately, I do know that the Flash Glam FX is still available online.

So this should hold me over on my blue polish addition, at least for a while. What are some of your favorite blue polishes? I can't see to get enough of blue nail polishes.

Just Keep Swimming...Some of the Sally Hansen Under The Sea Collection Swatches

I had been looking for the Sally Hansen Under The Sea Collection since late last year. So you can imagine my excitement when I finally found it at my local Walgreens and to make it even better, there was a pad of $2 coupons attached to the display.  There were 4 coupons left and the nail polish addict in me took over...LOL!  I used those 4 coupons to buy the following polishes:

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure - Blue My Mind is a Bright, Royal, Cobalt, Electric, Blue, Shimmer. Are those enough adjectives, LOL! This is just an "In Your Face" Blue. My love for blue polishes has been no secret. I went through my stash and found that I own several very close polishes, but I just can't pass of a gorgeous blue.

When I first heard of Sally Hansen's Under The Sea Collection, the first polish that I was determined to own was Mermaid's Tale. There were claims that it was a duplicate of Deborah Lippmann's Across The Universe. So when I saw the display, it was the first polish I put in my shopping cart.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure - Mermaid's Tale is a deep, blue, jelly, base with green and teal hexagonal and micro glitters. This polish is very versatile depending on the base used.  I tried to show some variety. Index Finger: WnW French White, Middle Finger: SH Blue My Mind, Ring Finger: SH Water Cooler, and Pinkie: SH Black and Blue.

The next blue I picked up was Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Water Color. It is a medium, sky blue cream with a slight teal undertone. It's about one shade lighter than Orly Blue Collar.

It is just difficult for me to pass up blue polishes.  With Sally Hansen's Water Color, I took a few minutes to decide. I wanted it but didn't need it. I already had several polishes very close, but I just couldn't leave it in the store.

Lastly from this collection is one of my favorite finishes, a duochrome.  This is  Sally Hansen Black and Blue.  I had a difficult time capturing its beauty in a photo, but there is a visible duochrome quality. The bottle color is just gorgeous.

Sally Hansen Black & Blue is a very pretty deep navy, teal, purple, green duochrome.  Originally before seeing it in person, I thought it was close to OPI Glacier Bay Blue, but it is more teal where OPI GBB is more navy.  This is a definite must have from the collection, but pretty much all of the collection are must haves...

Well those are all I have purchased from this collection so far. I still want the foam mint green shade. So don't be surprised to see that in a future post.

We Must Find a Cure! 31 Days of Pink...(Day 7)

As promised, here is the second pink from the Orly Electronica collection, Synchro.  Synchro is a pinky, mauve with a blue iridescence. In the bottle it has a duochrome appearence.  It is close to impossible for me to pass up duochromes. 

As I mentioned in the previous post, Synchro was released with the 2012 Electronica Collection earlier this year. 

Just look at this bottle picture; how could any polish addict pass this by? It looks like a pink oil slick.



I must admit, on the nail, the finish is not as magnificent as it is in the bottle, but pretty nonethenless.  Synchro is a sheer polish is requires at least 3 coats to achieve full opacity. Pictured, this is two coats and you can still see visible nail lines.  You can see the blue iridescence, but I also had a difficult time trying to not get the brushstroke marks. 

 

  



I was ready to post these pictures when I asked myself, what would Synchro look like over black? So I tried it over Sinful Colors Black on Black.

    

 
It still has that oil slick look. I think I will play with Orly Synchro and other layerings. But either way, this a duochrome that I couldn't pass up.

China Glaze New Bohemian Luster Chrome revisited

There is a drug store brand that has recently released a luster collection that reminds me very much of the China Glaze New Bohemian Luster Chrome collection that was just released this past August. Since I did't get a chance to share them with you then (although I know the blogosphere was bombarded with swatches), I will take this opportunity to do so.  Even as recent as this past weekend, I have spotted the China Glaze New Bohemian Luster Chrome collection in a local Sally Beauty. So they are still available.

The collection consists of 6 duochrome (multichrome) polishes:

• Unpredictable* – "Multidimensional gorgeous green" - depending on the lighting I saw transitions from Teal to Green to Gold.  Application was smooth but brushstrokes were evident.

• Rare & Radiant – Extraordinarily rich gold - depending on the lighting I saw transitions from Green to Olive to Gold to Bronze. Rare & Radiant is said to be a dupe of the much sought after Chanel Peridot. Rare & Radiant is also duppish of OPI Just Spotted The Lizard.

•  Swanky Silk – Brilliant beige with peach undertones - depending on the lighting I saw transitions from Gold to Peach to Pink. I would definitely go for 3 coats with my next application.

   

• No Plain Jane – Lavish lavender-pink - depending on the lighting I saw transitions from Purple to Lavender to Pink. This reminds me of one of the Nubar duochromes, Purple Beach.

•  Want My Bawdy – Sexy sapphire blue - depending on the lighting I saw transitions from a gorgeous sapphire blue to a deep purple. Funny, I recently did a swatch of Nicole by OPI-It's Up To You, that is a sapphire blue to purple duochrome.

• Deviantly Daring* – Adventurously bold peacock teal - depending on the lighting I saw transitions from blue to teal. I don't have anything in my collection similar to Deviantly Daring so I am happy to have it.

Review:

• Opacity: pictured is 2 coats several would require additional coats prevent all visible nail lines.
• Application: each of the six requires great care to prevent brushstrokes
• Bottle: 14 mL – 0.5 Fl oz.
• Brush: Standard narrow brush
• Price: China Glaze - Reg. $5.99-6.99, but can be often found on sale at Sally, Ulta and other e-tailers.
