Coterie & butter LONDON Collaboration...Swatches

In the spirit of NY Fashion Week, and to celebrate the launch of www.coterie.com several beauty bloggers were invited to preview Coterie's first campaign featuring butter LONDON.  In return, we received a selection from the butter LONDON Ready-to-Wear collection.

We were able to select from the 6 Ready-to-Wear collection.  1, All Hail The Queen was already part of my collection, so I chose Bluey, which I had been wanting for ages, Pillar Box Red, and Knackered. Along with the 3 we selected, we also received a bottle of the butter LONDON Matte Finish Top Coat.

The first shade I jumped at was Bluey. As I mentioned previously, this had been a shade I had wanted for some time. It is described as "A slightly metallic, dark peacock blue".  It is very sheer and required 3 coats to achieve this level of opacity. Nonetheless, it was well worth the wait. I love these peacock blues and  butter LONDON does not disappoint.

As we are heading into Autumn now, it is the perfect time for me to start sporting matted nails. And butter LONDON has provided me with their Matte Top Coat. Bluey mattified is gorgeous!

Next, is Pillar Box Red. This is just the perfect, true cream red. A classic, necessity for every polish collection.

And mattifed...it looks like velvet.

Lastly, I chose the iridescent, holographic, duochrome Knackered. With those adjectives, who could pass this one up, LOL! The butter LONDON website describes it as "A sheer, twinkling oyster shade flecked with micro glitter particles... duochrome."  This is very sheer polish. As pictured this is 2 coats, so it would definitely take 4-5 coats to achieve an opaque application.

And mattifed, I achieved an iridescent dove gray.

So these are 3 butter LONDON polishes I gladly added to my butter LONDON collection.  Thanks to Coterie.
Did you get in on either of the Coterie/butter London specials?  If so, what colors did you select?

***NEW***: butter LONDON™ LIPPY Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection

Trends for Autumn/Winter 2012:

The matchy-matchy lip and nail trend is here to stay! Inspired by the high-impact lips seen on the catwalks this season, the LIPPY Autumn/Winter 2012 collection includes bold pops of color, chic nudes and a vampy hue. The shades are rich and highly pigmented for a look that’s luxe and perfectly on trend!

Toff

Colour: A darker, dustier, brownish variation on a rose pink. Stop to smell them. The roses, not the toffs.

Definition:  A slightly derogatory name for a member of the British upper class.

Come to Bed Red

Colour:  The sexiest red in history, by butter LONDON.

Definition:  ENOUGH SAID! A butter best seller for “Coco” wannabes.

Tea with the Queen

Colour:  On the pink side of tan, very neutral, but never boring. Understated and exceptional for work, or obviously, tea with the Queen.

Definition:  A highly prestigious invitation extended to important and boring members of the British public.

La Moss

Colour:  Vampy and full of red wine, just like its inspiration.

Definition:  Adding the prefix “La” to anyone’s name implies that they are a diva. A fashionista’s nickname for England’s most famous model.

Queen Vic

Colour:  Stunning, elegant and classy. Red wine meets cranberry. Fit for a queen.

Definition:  Beloved monarch, responsible for many of London’s most beautiful landmarks. (Also the name of about 3,000 English pubs).

***NEW***: butter LONDON™ Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection

Trends for Autumn/Winter 2012:

Sequins! Velvet! Satin! Tweed!  This season, the catwalks were abundant with rich texture!  We’ve translated this to nails through the infusion of glitter particles and metallic and holographic finishes. The colour tones speak to “earthiness” but are not specifically earth tones – think rust, shimmering greens and silvers. This collection feels future-forward but not futuristic. This season is all about using texture to add interest and depth to your look!

Lovely Jubbly

Colour:  A vibrant magenta flecked with red, blue and gold micro particles. Channeling a distinctly retro 70’s feel, this sultry glitter gives high impact sparkle perfect for Disco Divas.

Definition:  Brit speak for “Excellent.”  Used when a person hears pleasing news or has a stroke of good luck.
Trustafarian

Colour:  A golden holographic finish gives this delightful sage green a surprising and sophisticated edge.  ***I See "Holo"!!!!***

Definition:  A spoiled rich kid who pretends to be a hippy but still goes home to Daddy’s mansion on the weekend.
Gobsmacked

Colour:  A heavily pigmented charcoal grey glitter with a slightly textured finish. This shade is unlike anything we’ve seen before.  A legend in the making!

Definition:  To be totally speechless.  Unable to think of anything to say.

Shag

Colour:  A high-shine metallic lacquer in a warm orange-burgundy hue. Reminiscent of fallen Autumn leaves. Sigh.

Definition:  Brit slang for “knocking boots.”

Dodgy Barnett

Colour:  A highly holographic shade that blurs the line between grey and silver. A classic!   ***I See "Holo"!!!!***

Definition:  A bad hairdo. A mullet of any variety is a seriously Dodgy Barnett.

NOTD: Butter London - All Hail The Queen!

Butter London was a brand that I had never tried. The $14 a bottle was what prevented me from trying it.  To date the most I had spent for a single polish was $12.50 and that was for a Nfu-Oh and for an OPI DS polish.  I would look at the Butter London whenever I was in Ulta but just could not bring myself to spend the money. But fortunately during the month of September Ulta had their 21 Days of Beauty promotion.  Each day they offered "Beauty Steals" for the more high-end products and on September 20th, they had Butter London nail lacquer Buy 1 Get 1 free. Here was my chance to try Butter London for the first time.  Many awaited this promotion.  I checked the Ulta.com website about 2:00 PM EST and they were already Sold Out. WOW!  I thought long and hard on which shades I would try. So about 7:30 that evening I went to my local Ulta, not knowing if they would still have any in stock, but fortunately they did and I was able to pick up four polishes.

So here is my first posting on Butter London nail lacquer. I have an interview Thursday so to comply with the normal conservative interview look, I choose Butter London All Hail The Queen.

I had no expectations when starting to this manicure. First, coat, applied good; not runny. Second coat, gave me complete coverage and bottle color. The Butter London website claims that this is a "holographic beige". At best I would say it is a very slight scattered holo.  The color is a cool beigey-taupe. The one negative is that I am experiencing some shrinkage having used Seche Vite' Top Coat, so with the next Butter London manicure, I will use OPI Top Coat first, than SV.

Review:
  • Color Family: Tans & Browns - Cool tone
  • Finish: Slight Scattered Holographic
  • Opacity: 2 coats for bottle color
  • Bottle: 11 mL – 0.4 Fl oz.
  • Brush: Standard narrow brush
  • 3 Free Status: contains NO Formaldehyde, Toluene, or DBP
  • Price: Reg. $14.00 but I purchased B1G1 during Ulta's Sale
  • Availability: Ulta, Ulta.Com and Butter London.com are the places I have found them
  • Application: Smooth. In these pictures, I am wearing BC, and 2 coats of NP. I am seeing slight shrinkage so with the next application I will use another Top Coat before I apply Seche Vite'.
Remember, treat your nails as jewels, not tools. Grace and Peace.
