Top 6 Blue Nail Polishes for Summer! Response Post

Come on now! You know when I saw Amanda's post of ItIsAmandaaa of her Top 6 Blue Nail Polishes for Summer, I had to chime in. Amanda did a collaboration with Cali of ThreeSixtyNails. I will link their posts below. 

If you have followed me for more than 10 minutes you already know I LOVE blue nail polishes! Just as Amanda said in her video, I often have people tag me on blue polish posts and I love them!

 

While this is supposed to be my top 6 blue polishes I could have easily taken it to my top 100. Again, I love blue polishes! I remember the very first blue polish I ever purchased, Sally Girl Mean Streak. But I digress. Back to the reason for this post. I am drawn to mid-tone blues for Summer, cobalt, bright, holo, they all speak my truth.

NOTD: My new Favorite Purple!

Today, I'm sharing another mono-chromatic manicure.  Today's theme is purple. I recently found a purple I had been wanting for ages.  During a trip to Bed, Bath & Beyond, I found it...Color Club's Disco Dress had been on my wish list since I saw it  posted on someone's blog. This color is absolutely, drop dead, GORGEOUS!!! It doesn't lean red and it doesn't lean blue...IMO, it is the perfect royal purple. 

For this manicure, I used Color Club Disco Dress (Index, Pinkie, & Thumb), Jordana Purple Punch (Middle), and Sinful Colors Purple Gleam (Ring).

NOTD: Color Club Halo Hues, 2013-Eternal Beauty

Today's NOTD is Color Club's Eternal Beauty from the 2013 Halo Hues Collection. The is just a gorgeous polish.  The 2013 Halo Hues collection was gifted to me by my god-dog, Rudy, and his polish loving mother-NayButterfly as a birthday present and I love every one of the polishes in this collection.  Holo, purple, good coverage...what more could a girl ask for?

Host of Holos: Color Club 2012 Halo Hues Swatches

Earlier this month I posted a tutorial of a manicure I did using the 2012 Color Club Halo Hues collection. I received this collection as a gift from another nail polish enthusiast.  I realize that this collection is over a year old, but I thought I would share my swatches anyway. One can never have too many holographic nail polishes. A holo finish is one of my favorites and these linear holos of Color Club are some of my absolute favorites.  These pictures were all taken under an Ott-Light with no flash.

Let's get started...first, is Color Club Harp On It. This is a warm-toned silver, if that makes any sense. It's not that bamm, in-your-face, Christmas garland silver, but a silver none-the-less.

Next, is Color Club Cloud Nine, a light pinky-lavender linear holo. This is lighter and more pink than the next swatch, Halo-Graphic.

Here is Color Club Halo-Graphic, while in the bottle when compared to Cloud Nine, look very similar, on the nail is definitely a more red-toned purple.

Now you know that Color Club Blue Heaven would be my favorite of the collection.  This is a cooler light blue.

Next is Color Club Cherubic. This is a neutral beige but it gives me the mannequin hands look with that extra bling.

Lastly, is Color Club Angel Kiss, my second favorite in this collection. A beautiful blue-green, that leans toward teal.

TUTORIAL: Color Club Patchwork Manicure

Not too long ago, I posted a quick manicure I did while playing with my Color Club Halo Hues from the 2012 collection. I had a few people ask for a tutorial so I thought I would do a post explaining this really simple nail art.

First, I lined up my 2012 Color Club Halo Hues.  I believe that this would work with most holographic polishes, whereas polishes like creams, would have a different effect. It's the effect of the holographic polish that plays tricks on your eyes and adds to the overall look of the manicure.

I took my first polish, Cherubic and applied 1 decent coat, not too thick but thick enough to get full coverage.  Let it dry. Since I will be overlapping other polishes, I don't want the colors to mingle on the brushes.

Next line up the other polishes, I alternated with Blue Heaven, Cloud Nine, Angel Kiss and Halo-Graphic.

This really is a very simple manicure. I have added this diagram to show how I applied the polishes. Base Color, another color diagonal across, and the third color down one half of the nail. That's it. I am not one for complicated and detailed nail art. It's all smokin' mirrors. LOL! 

When applying the diagonal colors, again it's just one coat. If the coats are too thick they won't "bleed through" to give you the same effect.  Just remember the colors you use on the diagonal, Left to Right, use in the reverse order on the vertical line. (1-2-3-4, 4-3-2-1).
Once the diagonal color has dried to the touch, it's time to apply the vertical color. Again, just one thin coat. Again, remember, 1-2-3-4, 4-3-2-1.  And that's it!

As you can see, by not applying the colors too thick they appear to "bleed through" each layer; giving you a rainbow holographic effect.

NOTD: Color Club Ho-Ho-Holly...

With the Holiday Season and Pantone announcing Emerald as the Color of the Year for 2013, this polish is perfect. I was recently in Sally Beauty looking to pick up some new polishes and to my surprise, I spotted a small Color Club display.  This was my normal Sally Beauty and they had never carried the Color Club brand so you can imagine my delight.  I picked up two, the first that I will share with you is Color Club Ho-Ho-Holly from their 2012 Holiday Collection. It is a gorgeous Emerald Foil Green.

Prior to this purchase, I only owned one other Color Club polish. I had been wanting to get more but just hadn't yet.  At first sight, I picked this polish up and was taken by the beautiful emerald green with a golden highlight.  It is a foil finish that is not too "in your face".  But this is one of those polishes that caused me to continually admire my manicure throughout the day.

I really do need to get some more Color Club polishes, but just need to remember to make sure the room is well ventilated when I'm polishing my nails.  What are some of your favorite Color Club polishes? I need to start my shopping list, LOL!

• Opacity: As pictured, 2 coats for full opacity
• Price: At Sally Beauty, $3.99 for 15ml,  0.5 oz
• Availabiltiy: Some Ross Department Stores, some Sally Beauty Stores, and Online retailers
• Application: Smooth with no flooding of the cuticles.
• Con: There is a definite strong scent. Even after 2 days, the chemical scent was noticable.

NOTD: Color Club – Wild At Heart + Shrinkage (UGH!)

This was my first try with a Color Club polish.  I had seen many swatches of Color Club Wild At Heart and fell in love.  It was a must have for my collection.  I have mentioned several times how much I love my purples and this one is no different.  Wild At Heart is a holoish-purple.  Each time I look at it, I think of a grape jelly purple-a true purple.   It has a slight holo effect.  It is in the same family as China Glaze Virtual Violet from the Tronica collection.  As for my opinion of the polish itself: In the pictures this is 2 coats, along with base coat and top coat.  The application is smooth and caused no issues.  With regards to the bottle, I am still a fan of longer brush handles, like those with China Glaze, Finger Paints, Orly and OPI.  The short brushes like those found with Essie, and Color Club, I am not a fan of.    

I mentioned the top coat.  With this application, I used Seche Vite’ Fast Drying Top Coat.  While it does actually dry my polishes extremely fast (approximately 15 minutes), I know that many have complained of shrinkage.  Up to this point I had never personally experienced shrinkage but I had read on several blogs and Make Up Alley that Seche Vite’ and certain polishes did not work well together.  Well I can now add Color Club Wild At Heart to that list.  This was my first experience with shrinkage.  Next time I will try another Fast Dry Top Coat, perhaps, Poshe’.  I am spoiled now and will not ever wait for my polish to dry.  But overall, I really do like Color Club Wild At Heart!!!  Purple lovers, it’s a Must!!!
