REVIEW: China Glaze On Safari Swatches

Although the thermometer is reading 100 degrees, the fashion and beauty industries are being bombarded with Fall and Fall colors.  And this can be seen with one of the most recent collections from China Glaze.  The China Glaze On Safari Collection was released in May and includes 12 cremes and glitters.  I was given the opportunity to review 3 of the collection: Exotic Encounter, I'm Not Lion, and Adventure Red-y.  These are 3 great colors to get anyone through the fall and winter months.

The first shade I tried was Exotic Encounters, which is described as lush green crème with blue undertones. I would add that it is a dusty teal with blue undertones.  The application was smooth and I achieved bottle color with two coats.  One thing, I must warn you of is that Exotic Encounters stains so be sure to use a base coat (probably 2-3 coats).

The next shade I reached for was Adventure Red-y.  This is described as a vivid red.  In my entire collection I have less than a half dozen creme red polishes.  I wouldn't call this a Christmas red but more so a deep red with a brown undertone.  The application was a bit watery and this one also stained like crazy. My first wearing, I had it on for less than 10 minutes and it stained.  Adventure Red-y is a great fall color.

Lastly, I received I'm Not Lion, one of the two glitters in the collection.  It is described as a glistening gold and multi-color glitter.  This is not an "in your face" glitter, but a more subtle glitter.  I'm not known for wearing a full glitter manicure, but with this shade I could.  The application was easy and took 3 coats for full opacity.  Removal was easy, unlike most glitters.

There are a few others from this collection that I need to add to my stash.  So if you are stating to prep your collection for the cooler months, give the China Glaze On Safari collection a look.

China Glaze Metallic Red Comparisons

Last week, one of my favorite Bloggers did one of her gorgeous comparisons. All You Desire does excellent side-by-side comparisons.  It is her blog, that I often go to when wanting to see comparisons.  Recently, she answered the request of one of her followers to compare several China Glaze metallic reds-Long Kiss, Momma Kissing Santa, & Short & Sassy.  Whoever it was that made the request had also asked for a comparison to include China Glaze Thunderbird. Unfortunately All You Desire did not own Thunderbird. 


Sometime during my first year of blogging, I remember sharing a similar comparison to someone on MakeupAlley.com. So I figured I would pull from my stash and do this comparison also but including Thunderbird and a couple others that are similar.  China Glaze must release a polish in this family at least once a year. And silly me, must buy each time.  While they are each in the same color family, none are true dupes. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! LOL!  They are each very pretty, it is just up to you to decide which one or ones...

Collections:  Each of these, can still be found online. Long Kiss is part of the permanent collection and can be found at Sally and Ulta.

Short & Sassy (Retro Diva Collection) is the darkest & deepest of the six.

Long Kiss (Permanent Collection) is very close to Thunderbird but has a bit more blue in the formula.

Thunderbird (Retro Diva Collection) has a lit from within glow.

Momma Kissing Santa (2010 Holiday Collection) is a traditional deep Christmas metallic red.

Stroll (Retro Diva Collection) contains red glass flakies. Kind of jelly-ish in its formula.

Riveter Rouge (Vintage Vixen) contains gold micro glitter.

The application of each was customary for the China Glaze formula. They applied smooth and with no streaking. To achieve bottle color, 2 coats were applied.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

I realize that it is August and that the temperature is reading near 100° F but I recently purchased a polish that gives me that Christmas feeling – Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Red Carpet.  Although I don’t own either to do a real life comparison, this polish reminds me of China Glaze Ruby Pumps, and Essie Ruby Slippers.  It is a bright red jelly with red glitter.

·         Selection:    Sally Hansen  appears to be trying to keep current with today’s trends.

NOTD: Orly Bus Stop Crimson-My All Time FAVORITE Red!!!

During this recent nail journey, I have tried to stay away from my old faithful colors--reds, and berries. I have worn blues, purples, teals, and some greens, but was determined to not fall back on my old classics. But this upcoming Friday is my birthday and I decided to go to my ALL TIME FAVORITE!!! and it is Orly Bus Stop Crimson--RED!!!! This is my perfect red!!! Not too blue, and not too orange. Fortunate for me, it is part of the Orly core collection and easy to find.  Years ago, I wore Helena Rubinstein pretty much 100% of the time, but that line was discontinued in the US so I had to find an alternative. And the angels smiled and showed me Orly Bus Stop Crimson--Hallelujah!  No matter what season I wear this shade, I get compliments.  It's the perfect Christmas Red; the perfect Summer Red; it's just my perfect Red!

Review: 

• Orly Bus Stop Crimson is a deep, warm red cream. It is part of the Orly core line and easy to find at your local Saly Beauty Supply Stores.
• Application is smooth; this is two coats with BC and TC. It is streaky with only one coat, so two coats is a must.
• There are not many polishes that I feel the need to have backups for but this is a definite-I currently own 2 bottles.
